These targets include reducing its carbon footprint by 5% annually resulting in a 35% reduction by 2020; halving non-hazardous waste to landfill over the next four years and sending zero non-hazardous waste to landfill by 2020.

Recofloor is a key player among a select number of organisations that Keepmoat has chosen to work with on waste reduction and which share the same aims. Keepmoat is currently involved with a number of refurbishment projects under The Decent Homes Standard, the Government initiative that sets standards for modern homes in terms of fitness, structure, energy efficiency and facilities.

The company joined Recofloor in 2011 and the following year it took the Construction Company of the Year Award in the 2012 Recofloor Awards for its work on Decent Homes schemes and ensuring that small quantities of vinyl flooring from a large geographic area are diverted away from landfill.

This firm’s commitment to recycling was also recognised with a Silver Award and to date Keepmoat has recycled nearly 11 tonnes of uplifted vinyl flooring and installation offcuts through Recofloor.

For the last two years, Recofloor has been involved with Keepmoat’s Regeneration division in the South East where vinyl flooring from a wide geographical area is being diverted from landfill – fully embracing Recofloor’s founding principles. Individual project managers are utilising the scheme on a number of refurbishment sites where both uplifted vinyl flooring and installation offcuts are collected for subsequent recycling into new products by flooring manufacturers and Recofloor’s founders, Altro and Polyflor.

In East Finchley, London, Keepmoat is currently recycling two to three tonnes of uplifted vinyl flooring and offcuts a month from a major multi-million pound refurbishment scheme of homes managed by Genesis Housing Association. Hundreds of flats, bungalows and houses are undergoing improvements in the five-year contract, which is in its third year.

Vinyl flooring waste from kitchens and bathrooms is segregated according to Recofloor specification and stored in Recofloor bulk bags on pallets in a dedicated area on site prior to collection as required. Using the bags helps installers to keep work areas tidier, as well as saving on skip hire costs and space on site.
