Why choose Recofloor?

Manage Waste Responsibly

Recofloor is simple to use, making it easy for participants to take a responsible approach when it comes to disposing of vinyl flooring waste from new construction or refurbishment projects.

Set Targets

Improve and meet your business sustainability targets. Recofloor keeps a record of all the collections and the weight collected. This can help you to compare business performance and set waste targets.

Cut Costs

Recofloor is free to join and saves members money on waste disposal costs. It’s free to drop-off small amounts of waste vinyl at our drop-off sites at participating flooring distributors, and our collection service for larger volumes can save up to 70% when compared to landfill or skips costs.

Improve Your Business Profile

Participating in Recofloor demonstrates a commitment to sustainability. Members can use their involvement in the scheme as evidence of their recycling efforts, raising their green profile and helping them gain environmental certifications and win more business.

Join Recofloor Today

Joining Recofloor is easy, just register with us to become a member and start recycling as soon as possible.

We’ve diverted 8,300 tonnes of vinyl flooring – enough to cover 382 football pitches

I think Recofloor is really good. We have been doing flooring for quite some time, and the scheme has made a considerable impact in reducing what we send to landfill and how we handle waste.

The costs associated with the scheme make it cost effective compared with the use of a skip and it’s good for the next generation that we are reducing what we’re sending to landfill.

“It’s a really impressive set-up and I’d recommend it.

~ Debbie Buckett, Director, Meadee Flooring Ltd

Wanting to reduce our environmental impact and improve our work practice we joined Recofloor in 2021. Benefits of promoting the scheme have been a significant factor in securing major projects in addition to helping us win other industry awards. Our efforts to maximise recycling have significantly reduced waste sent to landfill and we are committed to becoming a more sustainable business.

~ Rowan Acomb, Contracts Manager, Geoff Acomb & Sons Ltd

Our involvement with Recofloor helps us to fulfil our commitment to the environment and our passion for recycling. We promote the scheme within the company, so our employees understand the importance of the returns system and how it operates to avoid contamination. We also mention Recofloor to our customers, so they know why and how we recycle our safety flooring offcuts. This has definitely helped us gain trust and retain existing customers, which is a huge part of how we work.

~ Stephen Scriven, Senior Partner, Locke & Eastwood

Over the years we’ve really tried to promote Recofloor throughout our sites and have achieved that on a number of the larger contracts that we’ve undertaken. We’re bringing back waste which diverts from landfill wherever possible.

“It’s becoming more and more of a requirement now in our tender submissions to promote, and where we can, obviously, reduce waste. So, it’s an excellent way we can achieve that and offer that sort of service.

“It’s something we’re proud of, it’s something we promote, and we hope to continue to do so as we move to the future.

~ Lee Fox, Managing Director, Oxden Floors Ltd

Recovering Resources

When vinyl reaches the end of its lifespan, disposal can be an issue. New installations also produce significant waste which must be disposed of. Installation wastage for new vinyl flooring is typically 10% but can be as high as 20%. For luxury vinyl tiles, it’s less, but still between 3 and 5%. In the past, the only viable option in most cases was landfill. Yet vinyl is ideal for recycling.

The Recofloor process is cost-effective and relatively straightforward. The material for recycling is mainly collected by vehicles already making delivery runs, keeping the carbon footprint of collections low. The vinyl material we collect is then hand-sorted by Altro and Polyflor at their UK plants, and either recycled into new flooring or sent to a UK recycler to be used in traffic management products.

Our Founders

Recofloor was established in 2009 following a WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) funded pilot scheme looking at how to increase the collection and recycling of vinyl flooring waste. The pilot involved all the UK vinyl flooring manufacturers. When the trial came to an end, the two leading manufacturers Altro and Polyflor committed to taking the scheme forward and to providing funding.

Sharing a genuine desire to increase sustainability of their products, they agreed the best way to tackle the problem was through collaboration. The outcome was the Recofloor initiative: a simple-to-use, national take-back scheme that makes the most of reverse logistics to minimise any additional CO2 emissions.

This is a unique example of two major competitors working collaboratively for the wider good. For both companies, the ongoing commitment to the scheme is part of a wider push to make vinyl flooring a responsible flooring choice across the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic. From product design and the sourcing of raw materials right through to packaging and distribution, the two manufacturers are actively reducing harmful impacts and introducing more sustainable practices.

Since launch, Recofloor has become the industry leader in vinyl take back.

It has won multiple awards and received wide recognition across the industry, including from VinylPlus, the European PVC industry sustainability programme.

Sending vinyl flooring to landfill is in every way a waste of resources.

With every piece we divert from landfill, we stop valuable materials from going to waste, cut carbon emissions and reduce harm to the environment.

    Flooring that cares

    Published on:20/05/202620/05/2026

As a Project Manager at Recofloor, I often experience vinyl flooring installation viewed through the lens of being a practical, technical process: selecting the right product, preparing subfloors, and ensuring a high-quality, durable finish. In many sectors, the focus is inevitably on longevity, maintenance and cost-effectiveness. However, these factors –…
