How Recofloor works for contractors
Contractors can recycle 5 types of specified vinyl flooring waste through Recofloor:
Make sure that everyone involved in the scheme is familiar with our specifications – it’s essential that only material suitable for recycling is collected.
No cushion or felt backed vinyl is accepted.
Getting set up
If you have small quantities of day-to-day material for disposal, you can register as a drop-off site user to bring your vinyl waste to one of our drop-off points across the UK. For larger quantities, we can collect from your premises or job site.

Drop-off Sites
Getting set up as a drop-off user
You can drop-off day-to-day vinyl flooring material, free of charge, at your local participating flooring distributor. The first step is to check the distributors’ requirements to make sure they accept the relevant types of waste. See our waste specifications
Once you have identified a suitable local drop-off point (or points), sign up with Recofloor. This enables you to claim free Recofloor clear sacks from your local drop-off point to start collecting and disposing of material.
How to use drop-off sites
Using Recofloor clear sacks
The sacks are clearly label and each bag holds around 10-12m2 of flooring. They are optional for offcuts but required for uplifted vinyl specially if the material will be put in the same bin or bulk bag with offcuts at the distributor drop-off point. When using the clear sacks you can reuse if in good condition. Otherwise, put full sack in bulk bag.

Premises and Job Site Collections
Getting set up
If you have enough material to fill the Recofloor bulk bags, you can sign up with Recofloor for collections from your premises or from a project site. We’ll then get in touch to assess the location and agree arrangements.
We’ll need to know:
For collections from site, we’ll also need to know:
To be sure we have time to put job site collection arrangements in place and are able to collect the material, get in touch as soon as you are in a position to give us the information. For some projects, we are able to supply 1100ml Recofloor metal bins which meet with waste regulations for storing waste on large scale projects.
Costs
With our free bulk bag collection service and low bulk bags prices you can expect considerable cost savings compared to landfill.
Price per bulk bag is £20
Price per pre-agreed bins is £40
Payment is made upfront when you order the bulk bags or bin deliveries/replacements.
Minimum 2 bulk bags per collection is usually required. In the event of roll-ends, a £40 payment fee is required and payment will be taken when you book the collection.
Operating Recofloor
Once you have registered and we have agreed arrangements, we’ll send your first bulk bags plus some clear Recofloor sacks if you need them. The sacks are for helping on collecting up material to go into the bulk bags.
Using Recofloor bulk bags
Bulk bags are clearly labelled and colour-coded for each of the four different waste categories:
Each bulk bag is 1m3 and holds around 80m2 of flooring, or 250 – 300kg. You must place each bulk bag securely on a standard pallet (1200mm×1000mm).
Using Recofloor clear sacks
The sacks are clearly label and each bag holds around 10-12m2 of flooring. They are optional as you can put the material directly in the correct bulk bag. When using the clear sacks you can reuse if in good condition. Otherwise, put full sack in corresponding bulk bag.
Disposing of roll-ends
Roll-ends must be palletised or cut up and put into bulk bags – see how to pack roll-ends for collection. Then simply include the roll-ends in your collection request when you order a collection.
How to order collections and new bags
To order collections and new bags, use our online contractor order form. You can also use the same form to order new bags at any time.
Book collections when the bulk bags are nearly full and for the correct number of bags (minimum 2). For roll-ends collections, book for the correct number of double pallets.
Make sure everyone involved with the scheme understands that transport drivers can’t accept any of the following:
Altro, Polyflor or a third-party haulier will collect the full bulk bags/bin(s) within 4 – 10 working days after a request has been made and replace full bin(s) with empty bin(s). Replacement bags can be ordered and paid for via the Contractors’ order form. A waste transfer note will be emailed to you after collection.
Altro and Polyflor material
If you’re collecting Altro or Polyflor material, let us know. We can create Recofloor case studies around your efforts. We’ll also pass details on to the manufacturers, who may follow up with publicity activity.
Evidence of recycling
After your first collection with Recofloor you will receive a printed copy of our Certificate of Commitment. Additionally, you can ask us for statement letters at any time showing your active participation in partnership with your local flooring distributor or for the amount of material collected from your premises or project. You can use these to apply for environmental industry awards, certificates or BREEAM certificates points that will help you win more business. This evidence is particularly valuable where proof of recycling is a requirement in tender process.
