Recofloor’s recycling successes have earned it yet another major accolade – the 2025 Green World Ambassador Silver Award for Waste Management in the Building and Construction sector.
The Green World Awards attract entries from across the globe and are one of the world’s most prestigious sustainability recognition campaigns. The win highlights Recofloor’s growing impact as a construction industry leader in circular waste solutions.
The award is the latest in a series of wins for the waste vinyl collection scheme, which was founded by Altro and Polyflor in 2009.
In 2024 alone, Recofloor scooped a Green Apple National Gold Award for Waste Management in the Building and Construction category and the Circular Economy award at the Better Society Awards. It was also Highly Commended in the Contribution to Achieving Net Zero category for the Awards for Excellence in Recycling, and shortlisted in three MRW National Recycling Awards categories.
“We’re thrilled to add the Green World Ambassador award to our list of achievements,” says Recofloor scheme manager, Carla Eslava. “The scheme’s continuing success is down to the commitment of flooring professionals who care about doing the right thing. This award is a win for every contractor, distributor, and installer who has chosen to work with us.”
In June this year, Carla attended The International CSR Excellence & Ambassador Awards at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London where Recofloor was recognised as an environmental Ambassadors for our continued support to the flooring industry.

What the numbers show
Since launch, Recofloor has diverted 7,700 tonnes (approximately 2,567,000m2) of uplifted and offcut vinyl from landfill or incineration – enough material to cover 354 football pitches. This effort is reducing demand for virgin materials and has saved over 9,000 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to driving around the equator 1,178 times or taking 2,357 cars off the road for a year.
The material collected is used in new products, including flooring.
Why Recofloor works
The scheme’s success is rooted in its practicality for participants. It’s both easy to implement and cheaper than traditional disposal methods, and provides high levels of support for members.
What’s more, participating companies gain a competitive edge. As sustainability becomes a key requirement in tenders and procurement processes, Recofloor membership enhances environmental credentials and boosts business viability.
Importantly, Recofloor has also been effective at building long-term partnerships across the supply chain – from specifiers, architects and main contractors through to distributors and local flooring firms.
Driving industry change
By making the sustainable option the easy option for vinyl recycling and showing real-world benefits, Recofloor is helping transform attitudes to waste in construction. What started as a flooring industry initiative is now inspiring businesses more broadly, showing that responsible waste management can – and should – be standard practice rather than an added extra.
