Recofloor and flooring distributors offer a convenient drop-off network for flooring contractors and fitters to dispose of their waste vinyl flooring.
Participating distributors play a key role in the success of Recofloor’s nationwide waste vinyl flooring collection scheme. Their engagement with the flooring supply chain and ability to bulk up small volumes of vinyl on their premises for subsequent collection and recycling reduces material sent to landfill, carbon footprints and the need for raw materials in the production of new products.
Their efforts have contributed significantly to the 6000 plus tonnes collected and recycled through the Recofloor scheme since founded by Altro and Polyflor in 2009.
With over 50 drop-off sites located across the UK, the service facilitates local contractors and fitters to discard their waste vinyl responsibly and free of charge when they pick up new flooring supplies for their next project. This enables the capture for recycling of relatively small volumes of material that would otherwise be skipped or landfilled.
Collection of material is arranged as backhaul by Recofloor using Altro or Polyflor flooring during their delivery routes, reducing even further carbon emissions for transporting the material.
Recofloor collector, Mark Purnell, Director of Fantasy Flooring says: “Our drop-off site in Cardiff is convenient for us – and it’s free. We’re saving around £250 a month on disposal costs – and helping to save the environment by recycling waste vinyl that can be readily reused in new products. Our involvement with Recofloor has raised awareness of our company.”
