After a small break for my birthday I thought I would take the opportunity to team the first London leg with a trip to see my friend in Hackney and a night out in London. I spent Sunday night in a lovely hotel in Reading where I was “guest of the day” and got a much-welcomed free upgrade. Monday morning, I went to visit Fineweave Carpets, Recofloor’s current Contractor of the Year from the 2019 Awards. I was so impressed with the comprehensive recycling solutions that Fineweave were adopting. They had three compactors for their carboard, plastic and most impressively carpet waste. They were also using Recofloor as part of a wider recycling effort. They should be held as an example of how all companies within the flooring sector could be dealing with waste.
Next, I made the trip south east of Reading and to Kingston. I spoke to the people at Volante. They are part of the F. Ball trial, so we spoke in depth about that, making it a success and how together we could drive Recofloor.
Safety Flooring Supplies near Heathrow were my next stop. It was nice to have a chat about the smooth running of Recofloor and get an understanding of how they are managing to meet their own self-imposed recycling standards over their two sites which cover all waste streams including packaging.
A Conference call with Altro and Polyflor was booked in, so after a discussion about our 2020 Recofloor awards by the side of a dual carriageway I went to see Middlesex Flooring, Project of the Year winners for 2019. They are based on the banks of a lovely canal near Rickmansworth, Watford. Home of perennial FA Cup bridesmaids and my team Watford FC. Come on you ’Orns! We had a really lovely chat about all sorts of things including the recycling of LVT and uplifted flooring and their work with SFS collecting Latex bottles.
