2019 marks the 10th anniversary of Recofloor. To celebrate, I have been sent on tour to visit some of our collectors. This is something I have done before, back in 2016, going around to our various drop-off sites around the UK. For the first time though we decided to also have a chat with some of our brilliant contractors.
Scotland was scheduled to be the first leg. It’s only a few hours to Glasgow to see Headlam Scotland. They are very keen recyclers and were one of the first to get on board, north of the border. It was helpful to see where we could help them out with marketing support and how they could promote the scheme to their customers by using Recofloor as a sales tool.
I’ve been to Glasgow a few times so can get there quite easily: M6, M74 and you’re basically there. Easy! I assumed it would be a quick hop up to Scotland’s petrochemical hub Aberdeen. I didn’t fully appreciate that the journey would be a further three hours from Glasgow. It was interesting to see signs for some places that I manly knew from Scottish football updates on Sky Sports, places like Alloa (Athletic), Arbroath (F.C), Cumbernauld (Colts). At this point, my car’s entire centre console and gauges decided to randomly shutdown. This meant I had no idea what speed I was going, I had no satnav (and crucially no radio to listen to), so I had no idea where I was going.
I was just stuck in a Premier Inn carpark in the middle of Dundee (home to both Dundee F.C and United) stranded. After trying the classic ‘turn it off and on again’ technique the dash flared up so at the least I could see what speed I was doing. The centre console was stillout of action. So, with my phone shouting directions at me from the passenger seat I cracked on to Aberdeen.
It was great to meet Veitchi Flooring. They are very hot on sustainability and are very clear on how recycling their vinyl offcuts can help their business, so definitely worth the trip up to see them.
The drive back down to Glasgow for a meeting at MacGregor’s Flooring. They have been a long time Recofloor supporter and have picked up multiple Recofloor awards along the way including Construction Project of the Year in 2015. I had a really nice chat and we discussed how Recofloor worked for them and how to integrate Recofloor in to even more projects. It was also nice to see one of the most adorable dogs in the office. More offices should have dogs – especially Recofloor HQ.
