Recofloor offers a sustainable collection service for commercial vinyl flooring, using the circular economy model by recycling waste material into new products. In this post, we want to share some of the milestones we accomplished in 2021!
In 2021, our scheme managed to collect 587 tonnes of waste vinyl flooring, this is almost 16% above the tonnage achieved in 2020!

With Covid-19 still being an ever-present challenge, we feel this is a fantastic achievement, particularly, as we met our annual 500 tonnes target two months before the end of the year!
26 new companies/fitters also joined the Recofloor scheme, and a total of 136 companies participated during the course of the entire year. 95% of the material collected consisted of roll-ends and post-installation offcuts, the remaining 5% consisted of uplifted smooth vinyl.
All the material collected counts toward a circular economy model, with it all being fully recycled and re-purposed.
During 2021, Recofloor’s Northern members’ bins were completely refurbished and provided with new stickers, giving the bins a new, modern look. Further investments were also made to buy new bins. And work on the Southern members’ bins will begin in 2022.
Recofloor Award winners were announced through social media (due to COVID-19), and certificates and trophies were sent by post. A new website was re-designed. It included improved information, a new members resources section and updates to the Cost Calculator, the Drop-off site map and all the forms. An online payment portal was also integrated as part of the Contractors Order Form for members to pay upfront by card payment for their bulk bags requests.
Recofloor is committed to maintaining a sustainable, circular economy model that benefits everyone as well as the planet. Since our scheme was launched in 2009 and as today, a total of 192, 667m2 of flooring has been recycled, reducing the need for new natural resources in the production of new products. We have saved 687 tonnes of CO2, which equates to driving around the equator 88 times or taking 177 cars off the road*.
These great achievements are entirely due to the dedication of all our team members. Their commitment to preserving the planet helped us reach these goals. We would be nowhere near these numbers if it had not been for our team’s drive and enthusiasm!
This January, Recofloor reached the 6000 tonne milestone and we are looking to hosting The Recofloor Award event on 28th April 2022 at Twickenham Stadium with Brian Moore as our host and guest speaker and with more exciting news to our members.
*Carbon saving estimate is based on displacing concrete in traffic management products, which is the primary application of recycled flooring.
