  • Back to school with Recofloor waste vinyl flooring recycling

Collaboration between Recofloor participating flooring distributor, flooring contractor and local building company led to the successful deployment of Altro and Polyflor’s commercial waste vinyl flooring collection scheme on a school flooring project in Cornwall.

Camborne-based JDS Properties & Developments Ltd completed a newbuild three classrooms and kitchen extension for students with learning disabilities at Newquay Tretherras School in July 2022. The flooring – 165 square metres of Altro Wood adhesive-free – was fitted by Andrew Stevens of All Floors Cornwall.

JDS Properties & Developments Ltd Director, Jonathan Rogers was made aware of the Recofloor scheme through Andrew, their flooring contractor, who has already used Recofloor on several projects.

Andrew drops off the waste vinyl material at his local distributor Fitwell Flooring Ltd, a long-standing and award-winning Recofloor distributor saving his clients money and helping them meet zero waste targets.

This project highlights the success of collaboration between the three parties in making the scheme work to collect the waste vinyl offcuts for recycling, rather than being sent to landfill.

Recofloor is the leading flooring sector’s sustainable collection scheme for commercial waste vinyl generated from all types of projects. All collected material is recycled and used in new products, including flooring. If you are thinking of deploying Recofloor on a project site, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

    Comments

“I collect the Recofloor bags as and when I need them and drop off the vinyl waste at Fitwell Flooring. I fit a lot of Altro and Polyflor flooring and Fitwell are quite pushy in encouraging you to use the bags. “But that’s good for the planet. It’s easy for me to take the waste vinyl to Fitwell’s premises due to proximity rather than paying for someone to take it or put it in a skip. The scheme saves me money because it costs a fortune to dispose of waste, so when it goes back through Recofloor, it doesn’t cost anything. It’s ideal for everyone!”
Andrew Stevens, All Floors Cornwall, Flooring Contractor
“Recofloor fits in with our company ethos to move towards being more carbon zero and environmentally friendly in our operations. "Collecting the waste vinyl flooring for recycling through Recofloor also helps with our disposal costs, making us more cost-effective and, of course, helping the environment. So, we are hoping to use the scheme on more projects in the future.”
Jonathan Rogers, JDS Properties & Developments Ltd, Director
“Whatever the size of your project, the Recofloor team can advise and help on how to make it work for you and for everything to run smoothly. To us, every offcut matters when it comes to diverting waste vinyl flooring from landfill. And that enthusiasm is shared by our committed members.”
    Carla Eslava, Recofloor Scheme Manager
