Collection Guidelines

Successful recycling relies on all collectors following our simple specifications.

Material acceptance specifications

  • Smooth sheet vinyl offcuts, roll-ends or uplifted flooring with a clean top surface and less than 3mm of screed or adhesive. No cushion or felt backed vinyl flooring.
  • Safety sheet vinyl flooring offcuts or roll-ends
  • Luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), including wood plank style offcuts
  • Loose lay sheet, roll-ends or plank style offcuts or uplifted vinyl
  • Altro and/or Polyflor welding rods

Any flooring or items that deviates from the above specifications will be considered contamination. If you’re collecting material on site, make sure you keep it separate from other construction waste to avoid contamination.

Collection containers specifications

  • Ensure the correct usage of the container for the vinyl type you are collecting. That is for example, for smooth vinyl offcuts, use the smooth vinyl offcuts bag. When working with multiple vinyl flooring types, please contact us for advice.
  • Ensure containers are kept on solid ground and accessible for collection.
  • Inform us of any site restrictions in relation to vehicle heights, security arrangements, site opening hours etc.
  • Keep containers within fill capacity level and ensure the material is adequately contained within the container. For bins keep lids locked.
  • Source and securely place Recofloor bulk bags on pallets (1200mmx1000mm minimum) to allow for easy movement with a forklift or pallet truck. Tie the bag loops when full.
  • Bins need to be returned prior to the end of the participation within the scheme. Where bins are provided, to keep them serviceable, please:
  • Do not paint or write on them or add any personal stickers.
  • Use the wheel brakes to ensure they don’t move around the site.
  • Remember to release the brakes before moving or loading the bin onto a vehicle to prevent wheel buckling.
  • Take general care of the bins and try not to dent them.
  • Roll-ends should be palletised using a 2m wide pallet or 2 standard pallets strapped together. They should then be placed on the pallets in a pyramid formation and secured using banded cord strap.

Collections can take between 4 – 10 days to complete.  Timed collections can be organised where necessary.

Contaminants and the problems they cause us

Any contamination makes it harder to produce a quality product and can mean we can’t recycle any of the material in the batch. We may then have to return the material to you or make a charge to cover the cost of transport and landfill.

Blades

Cause a dangerous health and safety risk for hand sorters and can damage machinery which is costly to repair.

Screed and adhesive

Can ruin collection containers and machinery (we can accept uplifted smooth vinyl with up to 3mm of screed or adhesive).

Other flooring types

Can harm the recycling process and reduce the quality of finished product.

Demolition

Waste such as concrete can blunt and damage recycling machinery.

Plastic, polythene & general waste

Gets caught in the machinery and makes the whole batch unusable.
