Recofloor, the vinyl flooring take-back scheme, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2019 with a wide range of special events, promotions and activities planned throughout the year.
Founded in 2009 by flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor, Recofloor has collected and recycled more than 4,300 tonnes of vinyl flooring over the last 10 years. That’s enough to cover 200 football pitches!
This successful scheme diverts waste vinyl flooring from being sent to landfill through the efforts of its collectors throughout the UK and Ireland. 60 drop-off sites at distributors’ premises accept vinyl flooring, providing a convenient and cost-effective service for flooring companies and contractors, helping to save on disposal costs.
Recofloor has some exciting things planned to mark 2019’s anniversary year and you’re all invited to celebrate with us. A major highlight will be the Annual Awards Event at The Belfry with guest host, comedian Mark Watson. Entries for the Recofloor 10 year anniversary awards have been the best yet, so don’t forget to submit your entry now.
The Recofloor team will be embarking on a full ’10 Year Tour’ across the UK and Ireland to meet with contractors and distributors providing support to our collectors and working to build on tonnages collected. We always welcome your input and ideas on how we can make Recofloor even better!

Even our collection bins get a ‘birthday makeover’ with 10 gold bins in circulation throughout our drop-off sites during 2019. If you spot one, be sure to take a photo with, post it on Twitter using @Recofloor and tag #ItsBin10Years

Barry Hall, Altro’s Manufacturing and Technical Director says: “Recofloor is a real example of best practice in the waste management and construction sectors. To my knowledge, no other scheme has worked as successfully as this where the industry has pulled together on waste and sustainability to make recycling happen. I think that’s unique and shows Recofloor is ahead of the game.”
Recofloor forms a core part of both Altro and Polyflor’s sustainability programmes and the scheme continues to drive forward circular economy principles in the flooring sector. Smooth and safety vinyl offcuts and roll ends, uplifted smooth vinyl, luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) and loose lay are recycled back into new products, including flooring manufactured by Altro and Polyflor.
