Usually these blogs are labelled by geographical region. This time I went all over the place so we will have make an exception on this occasion.
I set off with an amble down the M6 to Smethwick, where I met up with Concept Flooring Supplies. We had a chat and I handed them a selection of goodies, as we do with all of the distributors on our Grand Flooring Distributor Tour.
I then went into Birmingham to see yet another Carpet and Flooring branch. We discussed how they could boost collections.
After that, I started on the pilgrimage to my place of birth, Cambridge. (I was only there for about 3 months of my life and I have since seen the light and become a proud Manc – despite being a Watford FC Fan). I arrived at Carpet and Flooring, met the new boss and explained the scheme.
I then drove to STS flooring who are based a whopping 200 yards away. There I met with the guys who showed me their immaculate contamination-free bins. At the end of the day, I headed for Thetford for the night. I saw 5 American F-15 Eagle fighter jets, which isn’t something that we get every day in Stockport.
From there I made pit-stops at Flooring Supplies Anglia in Norwich, Anderson Grant in Chelmsford, PFC in Romford and Ashmount Flooring in Tottenham.
From Tottenham I headed to the home of the greatest football team in the world (or at the very least, the best in Hertfordshire) – Watford, where I met with the boss of STS Flooring branches in Watford and Cambridge.
Next I drove to the STS branch in Thame, Oxford. This was only a fleeting visit as the Thame branch is closing in a couple of weeks. I had a quick look at the bins so that we could arrange to send them to a new home. Don’t forget, if you are moving site or one of your branches is shutting down please let us know so that we can get our bins back.
After Oxford I drove to Bedfordshire. The journey included a mish-mash of country lanes and a challenging foray in to Milton Keynes. I hate roundabouts and 10 roundabouts in a row really is taking the biscuit!
At Beds Flooring, I was greeted by Anthony Rising, a long-time supporter of the scheme. I was given a full tour of their impressive warehouse and a piping hot coffee and we discussed all things recycling and flooring.
I headed away from the home counties to Leicester to bed down for the night. The next morning I headed to Floormart where we discussed Recofloor and how we could help engage customers more.
From Floormart, I went to Nottingham to see TR Flooring where I explained the details of Recofloor and why it is beneficial for everyone. One of the trials and tribulations of taking mugs to distributors as freebies is having to hear everyone repeat some regional variation of “there are plenty of mugs working here”. But if that is the worst part of my day I suppose I’m doing pretty well!
Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter @recofloor and to have a look at our website to see how Recofloor can help you save some money on your waste collections.
