Despite the challenges of 2020, a total of 424 tonnes of waste vinyl was collected through the Recofloor scheme last year – 68% of the forecast volume.
Contractors and distributors contributed 80% of volumes collected during 2020. 94% of this material was post-installation offcuts or roll-ends; 2% higher than in 2019. Our members’ commitment to following our specifications help the scheme to remain active. The material collected was good quality and free from contaminants, ensuring it can be recycled successfully.
The first two months of last year showed a promising bumper year for volumes, the first lockdown abruptly curtailed collections. When the sector reopened, the scheme was prepared to support our members. If they needed us, we could supply bags, information and advice. We kept Recofloor active because we knew it was important for the flooring industry to have a sustainable route for their waste vinyl flooring. Participation remained steady, despite unprecedented times and demanding priorities for our members.
Recofloor continues to go from strength to strength with 43 new companies and fitters joining the scheme in 2020. Last year, 134 members actively participated in the scheme with collection requests evenly distributed between Altro and Polyflor.
In 2020, the 4,490 visits to Recofloor’s website were up by 10% on 2019 levels, reflecting a growing awareness of the scheme and what it can offer. We always welcome new members to our well-established network.
